Hello! I am a 48 yr old female. Went for routine yearly mammo last week and within 24 hours had a magnification mammo, then ultrasound. Radiologist walked into the ultrasound room and said I need a stereotactic biopsy for a cluster of suspicious microcalcifications. He also saw a 3 mm solid mass on US but not on mammo. He didn't seem too concerned about the mass which concerns me that he seemed to blow that off.

Report says Bi-rads 4. Since this was all done at our local hospital (great reputation but not a breast center) I have opted for a second opinion before getting biopsy which he wanted me to have this week but I declined. Also should mention that my sister was diagnosed at 31 with stage 2 BC but thank god, she is a 9 yr survivor. I am scheduled to The James Cancer Center for 2nd opinion. I am terrified that they will agree that I need this biopsy. I'm trying to stay positive and I am hoping someone with knowledge and similar experience can help me out. UPDATE; got the call from The James today - radiologist went over all of my records from the original hospital and he agrees that I need a biopsy. I am terrified (and that’s putting it mildly) of needles. I know I have to do this for my own health, but what is the real risk of waiting for awhile. Everything I’ve read about Bi-Rads4 seems like there would be no harm in waiting because over 80% come back benign. Can anyone please shed some light. Thanks!!
