Exercise as medicine

I exercised almost every day during my 5 month chemo regimen and it really helped me feel better and reduced the side affects. I am scared that my upcoming surgery and rads will make it harder to exercise. I'd like to exercise like this forever and I hope I can do it long term. I would appreciate any tips on how to prioritize it with a busy lifestyle. I was surprised to read that exercise is being prescribed as medicine in Australia but I think this makes a ton of sense

    waytooanxiousmommy:

What kind of chemotherapy did you have and what kind of exercise did you do?

I typical exercise regularly but during chemo I can only manage some walking towards the end of my cycle.

Everyone reacts differently to various treatments, so you do have to see how it goes. BUT if you were able to maintain an exercise during chemo, you shouldn't have trouble with the rest. Depending on what kind of surgery you have, you will have a recovery period (longer for a mastectomy than a lumpectomy of course), and you should follow your doctor's recommendation (you can pretty much always walk if nothing else). I actually found my energy returning during radiation, but that varies with each person. If you want some exercise buddies, come over to the Lets Post Our Daily Exercise thread on the Fitness Forum. A great group of ladies at every stage of treatment and beyond!

so this isn’t alternative anymore !

Plenty of data to support exercise benefits on breast cancer presented at asco San Antonio etc and there is a field of exercise oncology

Goal is 150 minute of moderately vigourous exercise per week
