I have an appointment for an ultrasound next Friday but until then I am going to be ridden with anxiety. I noticed a lump in my left breast, more towards the upper side kind of near my armpit. The mass is clearly palpable. It feels hard and spikey. I can feel atleast 2 points in it. It seems to be kind of arrow head shaped. It feels like it’s pointed upwards This doesn’t seem good to me and I am only 24 years old and a mother of 1. Can anybody tell me if a hard and spikey lump seems suspicious?

    Hi Rik24,

Before imaging and pathology, I view all lumps, round, square, pointy or polka dotted as suspicious, and get them checked out, as it's good to see you are doing. Lumps can be MANY things, and MANY of them not cancer. At 24 your odds are almost next to nothing...and I mean that, almost NOTHING. Especially after having children. If you're still breastfeeding that also can add to the pile of causes. Your description sounds the way my lump felt, spearheaded. I came to find out later that the reason why it looked this way was because it was surrounded by 4 benign cysts. Your lump might be a group of cysts. Now, before you think that because mine was spearheaded yours will be cancer keep this in mind: I was also 49, post menopausal, out of shape, over weight, hadn't been taking care of myself for years and living a pretty unhealthy lifestyle. That might not have been the cause, but I'm sure it didn't help my natural disease fighting ability either! The vast majority of findings/lumps/bumps are benign, 80%, and even higher in your age group. Try to breath easy keeping the stats in mind. If your anxiety is over the top, call and see if you can get on a cancellation list if they have one and you're good to go last minute. Again, it's most likely you will be fine. Keep us posted on how things go for you. Hugs!

Thanks for responding! I know I have my age on my side and that is pretty much the only thing keeping me positive right now because this lump does not feel good! I cannot get in any earlier because they do not allow children in radiology and I have to wait for my husband to get back from deployment sometime next week because I do not have a babysitter :/ i will definitely update this post though so maybe it will help someone in the future, whatever this lump turns out to be!
