Awaiting MRI
Hi everyone,
I'm new to the site and thought I would post to get some advice/support here. I find when talking to friends and family I get the standard "im sure it's nothing " or "your going to be fine" response and it frustrates the hell out of me!! I recently noticed some dimpling on my left breast which caused a bit of a shape change, and my left breast is now noticeably larger than my right, where my right was always my larger breast. The area where the dimpling is feels thicker and feels like there is a small lump there.
In addition I have noticed some small areas of dry skin near the dimpling almost eczema like, and my breast itches on and off.
8 years ago I found what turned out to be a large cluster of cysts in the same breast. However this seems and feels different.
I have been to my doctor and have had a mammogram and ultrasound, The radiologist told me that I needed further imaging, and recommended an MRI. I have very dense breasts so it makes imaging difficult but the doctor said that there were some areas of concern..
so now I am awaiting to be scheduled for the MRI, I have some high anxiety moments but mostly I'm calm. I know this sounds crazy but I feel very certain that the diagnosis will be cancer. Has/does anyone else feel this way? I feel like I'm just waiting for the doctors to confirm what i already know so that i can get on with whatever is next.
Would love to hear any advice or similar stories
Wish you all well

Hi there Tara. I resisted the possibility of cancer til the very last moment, but after that I did have long stretches of eerie calm. I just felt like "ok, this is happening. What is my next step?" and kept putting one foot in front of the other while my friends and sisters were freaking out. And you know what? Treatments did end, and right now I feel just fine - sorta like surviving a car wreck!
I do wish you the best and hope you get benign results.

Honestly, that MRI was a freaking nightmare. I just NOW got home from mine. If you can, get valium, xanax or ANYTHING else to calm your nerves -- demand headphones and music for when you are in the MRI machine and if they can turn on the AC or a fan in the room, have them do so. I honestly thought I was going to throw up and suffocate. It was so uncomfortable, so loud and so painful for me
Also, I have very dense breasts and had a cluster of liquid filled cysts in the right breast about 20 years ago. My dr back then just drained it with a needle. Now, in that exact same spot, is ILC and the tumor is approximately 7 cm big which is quite large.
If you can push for a biopsy there, please do so ASAP. -
Tara, Yes, it’s a rollercoaster emotionally. I’m hoping for benign results for you, don’t let go of the stats, they’re on your side. As for the MRI, while not a pleasure cruise, they aren’t all that bad, I’ve had much worse dental appointments
