Good Morning,

Just wondering if anyone had an Oncotype score of 18 and had to have chemo, what were the reasons, what else did your MO weigh in to make thatdecision?

I have another 2 weeks before I meet with the oncologist and Im so anxious waiting on my treatmeant plan.

Any input would be greatly appreciated

I had a score of 18 and my dr did not recommend chemo but she would have been happy to order it for me if I had wanted it. A few things that played into it for me were the fact that I'm a bit older, I was grade 2 with a Mitotic rate of 1 and a KI67 at about 3%, so, a slow growing tumor. Also, my tumor was smaller, about 1.5cm. I think the current medical thinking is that the endocrine therapy drugs are more effective than chemo at keeping many of the cancers at bay so you're lucky that you are ER/PR positive and they will be prescribed for you.

Part of the Oncotype test is a graph that shows benefit vs risk of chemo. I think my chart showed a negative benefit. Have you seen yours?

Just from reading here over the last few years it seems like very few people with scores under 20 are given chemo.

The waiting is just the worst, isn't it? I just kept super busy while I waited and finished up every project I could think of in case I had to get chemo and it knocked me out of commission. So thankful I could skip it.

Here's hoping your MO gives you the same good news.

    Lucky

The fact that you are highly er,pr is great, means hormone therapy is the best for you, I believe your grade made your oncotype kind of high, I am sure your MO is gonna leave the decision on you.. try to do as much as research you can before your meeting with MO and have all the questions ready. I believe score 18 for node negative is good enough

I was a 20 and the Doc said it was my choice.  So I got the Mammaprint as a second opinion and it came back 'low risk'  No chemo for me.  With an 18 score, there's really only a 2% benefit with chemo.. AND the risks from chemo are around 3% so....

I'd get a second opinion.  Chemo isn't something you should jump into, especially with that high of hormone positive.
