Call back for additional imaging
Hello, I am new here. I have had a lump in my right breast since I was a teenager. No one have ever seemed concerned or even mentioned it during yearly pysicals. I has grown larger over the years but I have also gained weigh, is that normal? I just went for my first “screening mammogram” and have recieved the call back for a “diagnostic screening” I told them about the lump prior to the 3D mamo. Has anyone else had this situation and find out it is cancer? It feels hard, about 2in by 4in. How worried should I be

It is very common to get called back for more views after your first screening mammogram since they don't have old films to compare to check for stability. Often they take a better look and say, okay, looks benign. See you next year.
Even if you should need a biopsy, better than 80% of breast biopsies come back benign.

That is what I have been reading. The lump that is already there makes me super nervous. I feel as long as it’s been there is should not be anything to worry about but I have seen posts where it WAS something. Thank you for responding!

2 other things I question, why not give a reason and why am I being sent to a different floor with different equipment? Why not the same 3D imaging machines they used before? Is there a difference? And this floor is kept cold to keep this equipment cool, they suggest you bring a jacket. I just hate when they call and choose not give a reason, maybe as not to create more concern but it isn’t working.

The other floor you're being sent to probably has mammogram AND ultrasound. If your diagnostic mammogram isn't clear as to findings they'll want to do an ultrasound. Why didn't they tell you? Sometimes they don't on call backs, sometimes they do. My PCP calls me and tells me. I'm not sure if the centre I go to would take the time, they're so rushed. You can always ask them the reason you're being called back or request a copy of your results for pick up.
Melissa is spot on, most likely you will get benign results, I wish to best to you!

Thank you! That's what I keep telling myself. That I'm fine and it's nothing to worry about. That the odds are in my favor.

Is the lump actually 2 inches by 4 inches?
-
Maybe more like 2x2.5-3 inches. But of course that is me feeling through skin, it’s not small. It feels like it’s 3 of my fingers wide. I should know the exact size to tomorrow.

A cancer of that size, present for that long, seems an unlikely diagnosis. Let us know what they find.
