Lump with puckering (imaging scheduled for Tues)

Hi everyone. I'm 33, and had a baby boy just over a year ago. About three months ago (about a month before weaning my son), I noticed a dime sized lump on my right breast, that could only really be felt if I laid on my side (I happened to be breastfeeding him side lying when I noticed it). I assumed it was related to breastfeeding, and didn't panic, but just kept an eye on it. I weaned him a month later and continued to check to see if the lump would go away. I convinced myself that it was getting bigger and smaller over time (maybe a clogged milk duct?), but it didn't go away. Last week I decided to have it looked at by my OB and she found it almost immediately without me showing her where it was. When she pulled the skin, it created a divot or dimple, but only when the skin was pulled taught. She referred me for mammogram and ultrasound, and I have it scheduled for Tuesday.

A little back story - I had a breast reduction (about 1lb of tissue per breast) 13 years ago, and honestly have so much irregular tissue and scar tissue that I've never really been able to do a self exam properly, because everything is incredibly lumpy and inconsistent. I do check for changes every once in a while, but there is a chance this lump has been there since the surgery and I just never realized it.

I guess I am just here looking for similar experiences or some reassurance. I am trying not to panic, but it's pretty much the only thing I can think about at the moment. I appreciate your insight, and I am so sorry for anyone else who has or is going through something similar.

The chances of it being a benign condition (cyst, fibroadenoma) are very high. Please try to distract yourself and not worry.. although that probably isn't hard with a 1 year old little boy:) The waiting is extremely nerve-wracking. I totally understand that. I'm sorry that you are having to go through this. I have been there a few times.I'm about the same age as you, and have had several fibroadenomas over the last couple of years. Sending you good thoughts for Tuesday! Please keep us updated :)

Thank you so much! I keep trying to remind myself that the chances are much higher that it's benign, but it's hard to take my mind off of it. You're right though, chasing a one year old is helping. :)

Yes! You can definitely make it. It's not easy, but you should have some answers very soon.

I am so relieved. Both the mammo and ultrasound techs could feel the lump, but imaging showed all normal breast tissue. It's likely some scar tissue or extra dense “layered” tissue in one spot that feels like a lump. She said that tissue had been rearranged from surgery and the indent is probably from scar tissue as well. I never thought that having a reduction could cause so much worry down the road.

So so so thankful and squeezing my little guy extra hard tonight.
