My Imagination??

Hello again! I hate to sound like a hypochondriac but I swear my lump is noticeably larger than it was when I found it just about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Is it just my imagination running wild or is it possible that it's growing that fast? I have my first specialist visit on Friday (a surgeon) so I fully intend on asking him but thought I'd ask here first. This is all happening so fast - just a little over 2 weeks from discovery of lump to diagnosis. Needless to say, my head is spinning!!

I have found so much encouragement on this site so thank you!!

Hi Joy - it is definitely possible that the lump has grown in that time. Make sure you share this information with the surgeon.

joy- Don't feel bad about how questions may sound. This is a world many of us were shoved into without knowing much about and certainly without desire to be here. I'll tell ya that was all I could imagine once I found out my lump was cancerous and grade 3. It may not have been could to visualize this, but I kept imagining the cells dividing. I had my lumpectomy on 4/25. Exactly 2 weeks after I found out it was cancerous. I chose not wait for all the genetic testing to come back. I wanted it out and figured, if I need further surgical intervention due to genetic results (i'm 39 with triple neg, IDC), then i would cross that bridge when I get there.

It's all very personal choices. So sorry you are going through this. Sending prayers and hugs your way.

Hey....I had the same thing happen. I looked my surgeon in the face and told her, "Something is growing inside of me and I need it out now, pleeeease" Even tho she originally had me scheduled for TODAY, the surgery was 4/23. It scanned at 1cm and was 1.9cm in biopsy. The other thing that can be happening (and this happened to me too) is that your mammary glands or even nodes (should some be in your breast) may be swollen and present in a manner that makes you feel things have changed. Speak up. I am so glad I did and my surgeon told me the same thing - she was glad I had a sense of urgency.

Mine did grow as well. It measured 1.4 at time of biopsy and was 2.1 at time of surgery. My surgeon said it is an invasive, fast growing cancer and she wasn't surprised in the change.

Hi All:

Seems like what measures on mammo/ultrasound is often different than what comes out at surgery. My tumor measured 1-1.5cm on mammo. It was 2.8 upon removal. Who knows if it grew or if the measurement just wasn't right or both. Either way I'm glad I got it out asap. I've started AC chemo now, on 5/17.

The next thing I want to educate myself on is whether or not to get mastectomy. I'm 39 years old and since this tumor was larger than we thought and is triple neg...I'm concerned I could really find myself in this place again a few years from now. I just can't fathom that.
