Another biopsy? Need advice

First, thanks for such a great forum! This has been such a blessing and I truly appreciate everyone's posts!

I am still in a waiting game - IDC on left breast Dx 4/9 through routine mammo then biopsy - no palpable lump, had MRI 4/17 and revealed another small area in another quadrant of left breast, US on 4/25 did not confirm so MRI guided biopsy is recommended but can't be scheduled until 5/10. I still have to wait for genetic testing on 5/9 and plastic surgeon consult on 5/4 but am ready to just go right to bilateral mx. Maybe I need to be talked down or just hear from some that have experienced this. What are the odds the MRI biopsy shows another area of cancer?

Thanks again! Prayers and thoughts for all of you!

that other area of concern could be just a benign spot. You won’t know til they biopsy it. Choosing between lumpectomy + rads or mastectomy is a very personal decision. Sometimes you can avoid rads altogether with mastectomy, sometimes not (depends on node involvement). If you choose lumpectomy + rads or unilateral mastectomy you will have screenings every 6 months moving forward as part of a hypervigilance process. Many women go ahead do mastectomy in part so they just don’t have to deal with the stress that comes with the hypervigilance. Before choosing mastectomy, be sure to look at photos of the various reconstruction types and what flat looks like and decide if you’ll have reconstruction and what kind of reconstruction: implants or natural tissue. Both types of recon have their pros and cons. Both can be done at the same time as mastectomy if you find the right surgeon. It’s not an easy decision, but it’s one that only you can make and whatever the decisions it needs to leave you with a feeling of peace.

Thanks for the advice. I know I just need to wait for more results and make an informed decision that is best for me. As with all of us - I just want to move on and have a plan.
