Concerning vs breast feeding

So back story is my son is 2 , I stopped breastfeeding around 4 months ago. During our feeding time I had mastitis on my left side and several clogged milk ducts that always cleared right up with some help. That side was always my "slack boob" as I called it because right from the start it produced half of what my right side did and my son didn't like that so I went to exclusively feeding from the right causing my left to dry up about 2 months before he weaned completely.

Now here I am with a pain in my left side that seems to come and go about once or twice a week! I've tried noticing if it goes along with my period but I'm only on my 3rd cycle after weaning plus the pain just started about a month ago. And it's only on one side where I feel PMS is both. I have noticed that it does hurt after I have been to the gym or went on a long run ? I'm wondering if maybe I weakened the muscle during the breastfeeding and weaning stage and now I'm experiencing muscle pain ? I have no lumps , no rash and am 27 with no family history..

I go to my dr Friday for my yearly exam and I'm goinnto bring it up then but of course I had to google breast pain last week and now I'm so distraught I can not even sleep or eat .. I'm basically in my head planning my children and husbands lives after I'm gone.. I can not even look at them without bawling my eyes out because I'm so worried. I feel deep down this is hormone related because of all my recent changes.. has anyone else has a similar experience with breast pain a couple months after weaning ? Or felt weakened breast muscles ?

Hi ktay21 - Welcome to the Community. We are sorry that your worries brought you here but glad that you reached out! Breast pain can be a sign of many different conditions but if you search in internet you will probably find everything related to breast cancer, so we would recommend to stay away from internet till your appointment on Friday. We know it's scary, but try not to worry too much, it's not always cancer!

Please keep us posted on how it goes. Thinking of you,

See, this is the thing I absolutely HATE about the internet. It doesn't matter what your question about breasts, it's going to come up breast cancer. The internet has been scaring women needlessly since its inception.

My advice to you is to keep your doctor appt. It's always a good thing to have lumps checked out. Your risk of this being cancer is extremely low, less than 1%. This is far more likely to be hormone or breastfeeding related.

I do understand your fear, but I believe that grieving something that has not happened, and may never happen, is a waste of energy and life. Chances are extremely high that this is BENIGN. And in the rare event that it turns out to be cancer, well, there will be plenty if time to grieve then.

Try to keep your hands busy with something that requires your full attention. You have the perfect busybody right there in your home--nothing like a 2yr old to keep us moving! Let us know how things go, okay?

so I went to by OB and she said everything felt perfectly fine and looked great from the outside... she gave my Birth control to try and even out my hormones and said to come back in 3 months if the pain is still there... well that wasn't good enough for me... I've called her office 3 times in the past 2 weeks! She keeps saying ibuprofen and wait a little longer

so now I go back Thursday! She keeps saying an ultrasound is not necessary nor is a specialist.. I've also pre made an appointment for a new OBGYN next week.. I feel the one I have now isn't helping me. I have lost 10lbs fro my being so nauseous over this and it's extremely effecting my mood. I jus think can't shake the thought of what it could b

I'm just trying to understand...is the pain in your breast or in the chest muscle? And you have no lumps right? That's probably why she said no ultrasound, if she doesn't feel anything will show up (nothing palpable).

Weaning does cause changes as your hormones change.

I'm not sure where the pain is exactly coming from... it could be muscle pain but it's not tender to touch at all although I do find when I'm freaking myself out and poking and prodding non stop it does hurt more the following day so I'm trying to keep my hands off! It feels almost like a clogged duct except zero swelling or engorgement.. I feel like the birth control isn't making me have separate pains as well. The concerning pain and then the hormone related my boobs are growing pain
