IDC - Grade 3
Hi all. I’m 48 years old and received a diagnosis today of Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Grade 3. I’m still reeling from the news! I have an appointment with a specialist on Friday to come up with a game plan. Any insight and information appreciated.

I'm sorry you've had to join us. The only advice I can give at the moment is to get more than one opinion. I thought this stuff would have been pretty standardized but I got different treatment plans from different places. Best of luck, and I hope it all goes as smoothly as possible.

Yes get second opinions on everything and see an oncologist before making any surgery choices. I'm sorry you find yourself here it sucks and it's going to suck for a while but you will get through it.. Right now put yourself first, get educated on your choices and do not feel rushed to make decisions.. IDC doesn't normally grow super fast so you have time.

Hi Joy. I understand the big blow you just felt. I had mine two weeks ago. Is your appt Friday with a surgeon or oncologist? Either way it's a good idea to bring someone along if you can. The discussion and info is a lot! Someone who can take notes would be good. I'm finding that the treatment plan depends greatly on all the details and characteristics of the pathology. I got a copy of the path report before I went to see my oncologist. I'm sort of glad I did because when I met with the surgeon, she was missing one critical aspect of the pathology. It was a pending test. That result changed the direction she saw us going in. Mine was Grade 3 IDC as well, but still various aspects of the pathology are what direct the treatment plan. Plus, I'm under 40 so I have to do genetic testing.
Breathe. Take one step at a time. I know that's so much easier said than done. You will find lots of great input and support here. Sending you hugs and comfort.

Hello,
Today at age 44 I was also diagnosed with IDC Grade 3 and the tumor is progesterone and estrogen negative and HER2 positive. I also meet with my oncologist on Friday. Mine is fast-growing so I’ve already been told I will be getting a port next week and beginning chemo ASAP. Prior to the pathology, there was the possibility I would have surgery first, but this isn’t happening until after 6 rounds of chemo every 3 weeks.
Keep your faith strong as you move forward! Breast cancer research has come so far in the past several years! Praying for peace as you meet with your oncologist and develop a treatment plan together.
