Hi Everyone,

I had atypically ductal hyperplasia which I had removed on March 16. No cancer was found. My doctors are suggesting Tamoxifen as a preventative treatment. So my question has anyone taken Tamoxifen as a preventive, if so could you share your experience. There is a lot of information out there, ut I haven't seen any on Tamoxifen as a preventative for someone who has not been diagnosed with cancer.

Thank you.

I started taking Tamoxifen last month. I was also diagnosed with ADH. I was originally going to refuse to take it, but after the oncologist went over my risk, it seemed like a no brainer. Tolerating it fairly well, with just a few side effects.

Thank you for sharing. I am still undecided. If I may ask, what risk(s) made you decide? We talk to the oncologist on May 8. Having a hard time with all the negative out there.

    Thanks

The overall risk of developing breast cancer compared to the average woman is what swayed me. My oncologist is great, and I'll have blood work and check ups every three months. The feeling I had while thinking I might have cancer is not something I want to go through again.

I have had some side effects. I had insomnia to start, but that is waning. I haven't gained weight, but my middle seems bloated a lot. I've also had some low pelvic pain. I had an ablation three years ago, and I haven't had a period since. I started bleeding yesterday, so I'm worried my periods are coming back. That's something my oncologist warned me could happen.

Thank you for sharing. Hopefully I will be able to decide soon. I did think it was supposed to send you into menopause not the other way around. Hearing other peoplesresponses really helps. I wish you all the best.

    Thank you.

Yes take the Tamoxifen it may help you in the long run, but please keep a check on the ADH, I too had that and it turned into DCIS. Good luck.
