Anyone allergic to steri strips?

Hi ladies,

Has anyone had any issue with the steri strips? Last year I had no issue. Had both breasts biopsied on Tuesday. On my left one, the steri strips have already started to lift on the edges and I have super itchy raised, clear liquid filled blisters at the edges. The incisions feel fine. No bumps there. The rest of my breast is fine. No hard lumps or anything. Bruised, but fine. I didn’t realized they had fluid until I mindlessly just rubbed one and it popped. Ugh.

Anyone ever have this? I’m assuming it’s a reaction to the strips. So strange.

Thanks. It’s the old “adding insult to injury”. Odd that it’s only the ones on the left. The right feels fine. They’re not lifting at all though. Maybe that will be a whole different story. I’ve never had this before though. So strange how how bodies can react differently each time.

Yuppers! Itchy, weepy littlebumps that dried, scabbed and cleared a few days after the strips were removed.

I had an allergic reaction within an hour of my biopsy. The nurse said she’s never seen anything like it. I tell the nurses before procedures now and had them add it to my chart since steri-strips are so common. They just used a lot more surgical glue for my port placement and skipped the strips

me too, but they didn't do it when I had them elsewhere. I read something about the drag from the weight of your breast creating a "shearing" effect on the top layer of your skin. Whatever, it really lit me up. I got surgical glue the next tim

Sounds like you may be allergic to the adhesive. My DH has similar reactions to most medical tapes. The only tape he doesn't react to is paper tape.

You might want to let yi our surgeon know about tg his. They can advise you how to proceed with this.

I react to latex which includes adhesive. They gave me a paper tape bandage after my biopsy, which I did not react to in the slightest, and it stayed stuck on, but it was really soaked thru by showers over the 4-day post biopsy timeframe. Someone mentioned Glad Press and Seal as a good option to seal off the area and avoid allergic reactions. I have used it to freeze meat and it is an interesting product.
