I had my drains in for three weeks...my doctor kept giving me trouble because he didn't think I was taking it easy. As a result, I was draining lots of fluid. A month after my surgery...I was able to walk, for exercise, again but had to be careful about not swinging my arms. Everyone is different but I would think you would be ok by May.

I sure think so! I had the same surgery two weeks ago and am pretty much back to my normal self. I’m not lifting or doing anything to strain my arms/chest but I feel fine. Still have my drains but they don’t stop me from leaving the house and stuff. I imagine you will be okay to go back to school. Congrats on your Graduation too!!

Agreed -- good luck to you and I hope you are able to get the drains out soon. Those are the worst part of this whole thing. Just take care of yourself and get as much rest as you can.

Sounds like you're doing very well. You are a strong person! I truly believe the quicker you can get back to your normal life, the better. However, that being said make sure you take enough time for yourself to heal and be very careful not to expose yourself to any infection. Those drains still being in exposes you to a risk of infection as well as being around a bunch of people. I'm sure you want to get back to your classes so you're not behind but be very diligent about not exposing yourself to germs. Go to class and come straight home. This is the nurse in me talking, but act like everyone around you has the stomach flu. Wash your hands alot, be extra clean with your incision and drain sites, etc.
