Hello, I am a mom of three very small children and worried sick. I recently went to the doctor because of a new bump on my left breast. She told me she wasn't too worried about the bump but was worried about the lump in my right breast. She told me because I am only 29 I should have a breast ultrasound as soon as possible. I have the appointment scheduled for the 24th. But time is moving slow. It is nothing to worry about right?

I should include that I have breastfed the last two daughters. Stopped breast feeding over 12 months ago.

I still have some liquid coming out the boob, which I had attributed to the breast milk duct not closing all the way

The lump was hard, and not painful

The bump I felt was hard and not painful as well but seemed to high to be breast tissue

I have a history of breast cancer in my family. Great Grandma, Great Aunt, Cousin all on my fathers side

Blood test was normal

Hi and welcome to the boards! Hopefully you've just got a dried up milk lump in there! An ultrasound is a good idea to check it out.

    hi Wbullock,

I’m sorry you’re going through the anxiety of waiting and wondering, it truly is the worst! Only testing is going to tell what is going on. There are more benign findings than cancer.....like 80% benign. Your age also is a plus. Younger women are more likely not to have cancer than older. The fact that you’ve given birth in recent years could also be the cause. The numbers are on your side so try to take comfort in that. Could you call the place your ultrasound is happening and ask to be put on a cancellation list if they have one?

During your wait keep busy doing what you love and try your best not to google, all you’ll find us bad news that won’t help the worry. Sending positive vibes your way...keep us posted please!

Great advice from the others. One step at a time! We're all here for you, and understand how difficult the waiting period it!

Thank you everyone for responding to try and calm my fears and anxiety. I have 8 days left and trying to keep busy. I have started to paint my children's rooms to keep my mind busy after work and in between baseball games and practices. Thank you Eqads for suggesting to call the hospital to be put on a cancellation list. Hoping for good news. Do they tell you anything during the ultrasound? I am wondering if it would be a good idea for my husband take off work as well so he can accompany me at the ultrasound.

HI: I was not told anything during the ultrasound, other than that they wanted to schedule a biopsy next. So, if it isn't good news, you may just have more waiting and another test. I will say that it was obvious to me that they were very concerned after the ultrasound.

wbullock, I wish my DH had gone with me. I went for a routine mammo, not suspecting a thing, so he didn't go with me. They saw something and did an ultrasound on the spot. I knew it was serious when the radiologist wanted a sit-down with me. Of course, he couldn't tell me exactly what it was, but only that he was concerned enough to recommend a biopsy. I left there absolutely stunned. And then had to drive home in Atlanta rush hour traffic (which is some of the worst traffic in the US.) Yeah, I was thoroughly stressed out when I got home!

Best of luck to you. Breast cancer is rare in women under 40. Statistics say that women 20-35 have about a 1.8% risk. So your chances of this being benign are quite good. Keep your hands busy while you wait. Let us know how it goes.
