6.5cm Yikes!!!!
I just got off the phone with my surgeon. I had my bilateral mastectomy last Wednesday (april 4th)
The final pathology is in. All good news except the size!
She told me not to freak out and it’s just the way they measure because I have two areas of DCIS and then one main area of IDC and it’s a weird multifocal thing but because of the way they measure “on paper” it says the tumor size is 6.5cm. I almost fainted!!!! I was under the impression that my IDC lump was 2.5cm and that’s what mattered.
She said that my lymph node (sentinel) was clean, my nipple was clean, my other boob was clean and that it is all GREAT news.
I’m relieved about everything except this whole size thing has me freaked out!!! Please reassure me that all will be fine. Thanks ladies!!

I know. Mine was 8 cm and it has taken me a while to process that I had such a large tumor growing without knowing it.
-
btw my prognosis is still good, with aggressive treatment.

My tumor was over 6 cm - 9 positive nodes - triple positive -
I am 6.5 years out.
It is really scary! It is amazing to me that your nodes were clear! That is quite miraculous!
I, too, was so shocked that I never felt something that big.
I've talked to women with 10 cm tumors who have been alive a very long time.
But I get the size scary deal!! I'm still sort of traumatized by it when I think of it!
You can get through this!! We are all here to help!

My first surgeon explained it that there is the main tumor, but it could have long legs or just one long tentacle that would make it much larger “on paper.” It is possible that is what happened. When I first got out of surgery, I asked my surgeon how big it was because we knew it was fairly large and she said she couldn’t tell because it had two lobes and she couldn’t tell if they were connected or not. All these things we don’t think of with “a lump”!

I may be misunderstanding it, but its a total of all three that's 6.5 So the invasive part could still be quite small but the DCIS is widespread..which is quite common. Mine was not that big, but on my pathology it was ILC and LCIS and DCIS. I just got one size number so I don't know how much of it was the actual invasive and the balance of the Lcis/Dcis.
As I said earlier, maybe I am not understanding it correctly. Great news neg nodes and the other boob!!!!

I also had multi focal tumours totalling 8cm, main one was 5cm and satellite was 3cm. I was super scared by the size, especially because I couldn't believe i didn't notice it growing, it a c cup it was the majority of it..but you do learn to deal with it over time. I think larger size is associated with multi-focal and ER+ Potentially. That's fab about clear nodes though. That's the main thing. There's many of us doing good double figure years out+. Check out the stage 3 boards. You're not alone.

Hi, glad your surgery went good! Good luck.

Very happy for you that surgery went well. Unfortunately the size doesn’t mean whether it or not there will be metastasis. You just have to live each day as though it is the furtherest thing from your mind and find joy each and every day
