edited April 2018 in Not Diagnosed But Worried

this is the third year i have chosen to have a 3D annual screening. I have been scheduled an ultrasound for “possible mass Inferior left breast 6cm from nipple". I am quite worried since I was told the 3D was quite accurate. I am 62 with very small breasts, heterogenously dense. I cannot feel a lump. How often are false positives from the 3D mammogram and how can a mass be 6 cm in a very small Breast? Also, what does “inferior” mean on this test

I still have 8 days until my ultrasound.

    Dear retirednana,

Welcome to the BCO community. We are sorry that these changes in your 3D annual screening have brought you here but glad that you reached out. If you have more information from your mammogram you may want to look at this thread on Interpreting your results. Perhaps once you have your ultrasound results you can also review this thread for more clarity. Waiting for diagnostic tests can be very stessful. At the same time most of our members will advise you to not immediate jump to the worst conclusions. We are hoping for good results for you. The Mods

Many women get called back on 3D mammograms. I have spoken to many, many that were not cancer.

The waiting is horrible, however. sending my best to you.

Location of an abnomality within the breast has three attributes, distance from nipple, depth, and position in the breast relative to a clock face. In your report 6cm is the distance from the nipple indicating its location, not its size.

"Inferior" also refers to a location / position, meaning "located below" or "in the lower aspect" of something relative to a particular reference point, in breast it is usually the nipple line. Your feet are inferior to your knees (below), your neck is superior to your waist (above).

thank you for explaining. I’ve had a callback before with digital mammography but have a concern with this 3D callback.
