ALND For a New Primary BC

Options

Hi All,

I was recently diagnosed with a new primary BC in the same breast diagnosed and treated 21 years ago. During my first bought with BC, 0/17 axilla nodes tested negative. To date I have had a 3D tommo, 2 ultrasounds, and and MRI to confirm my new BC. My imaging studies show no signs of suspicious nodes. What is also of interest is that both ultrasounds state no evidence of lymph nodes in the axilla in which 17 nodes were removed. Is it possible that I really have no lymph nodes in my axilla? I am currently awaiting a surgical consult and I am going to opt for a BMX with reconstruction. I am 51 y/o and my biopsy path references IDC (papillary/intraductal papillary carcinoma), Grade 2, Mitotic Index 1, ER 100%/PR 5%, HER2 (pending FISH), Ki67 5%. Really hope I can beat this disease for a second time.

Thanks

    Hi Rhonda,

So sorry to learn that you're being drawn back into BC after having already been through it many years ago at such a young age. It's a bummer, but please know that you are not alone. (My BC experience began with DCIS, which followed by Solid Papillary and Mucinous with IDC which they had originally missed because doctors forgot to order a MRI.)

What's encouraging for you, Rhonda, is that your Mitosis is only a level 1, which is the strongest prognostic indicator for the Papillary family. I cannot answer your other questions, sorry. Hugs to you
