Numbing stuff for mastectomy
I don't have papers in front of me. But the stuff they numb you with that last 3 days or so. How bad doesn't at hurt?
And I am guessing that before they inject it it's the last time you feel your boobs for a BMX?

are you referring to the numbing stuff they sometimes use to help with the pain from giving the sentinel node dye injection

Or possibly Exparel, the injectable local anesthetic that is used to reduce opiod pain meds after mastectomy. If so, this is done after you are asleep, and lasts for several days. Some plastic surgeons also use Botox in the pectoral muscle if you are having reconstruction to help with pain control when using expanders. There are varying degrees of feeling that return after this surgery - I have very little skin sensation bi-laterally and it has been almost 8 years since my original surgery.

The exparel they use is typically injected during surgery. That's a morphine mixture. It's supposed to last 72 hrs. The pectoral blocks they put in before surgery usually last approx 12 hrs. I feel like mine really wore off when I went home the morning after my bmx. My only advice is to take your pain pills around the clock for the first few days AND, (very important) don't let the pharmacist give you child proof caps on your pills.

After Breast Cancer Surgery. Breast Augmentation must be required. If you are looking for Breast Augmentation in Dubai. Breast surgery Clinic is best choice.

Thank you that's what I meant, i didn't know it was during surgery.

Thanks, everyone. Good info. I was hoping my wife would get that stuff.

Mine was a ball reservoir under pressure that slowly injects through a catheter that was placed during surgery up to 5 days. I’ve heard them called bomb balls, a cue ball. They work great. You don’t have to do anything to it, until time to remove it. Big help. They use them in shoulder surgeries a lot als

My double mastectomy is Friday, and my plastic surgeon will use Exparel. He suggested I won't need any narcotic pain pills because of this?!? I am also having an axillary dissection of one breast due to original diagnosis (three nodes positive; tumor 5.8 cm).
Question: When I see him in the morning, what should I say about pain relief around these tissue expanders? I'm going from DDD to C or maybe B. They will be filled once while I'm under, twice more before radiation, then he says he must wait at least four months for an exchange because of the radiation. So that's a second question: anyone have radiation and make their exchange more like 2 months?
Thank you!

I don't remember anything being injected right before surgery. If they did it, I was out by then. Before surgery I pee'd in a cup (they had to do pregnancy test if your premenopausal and don't have your tubes tied), I got an IV places, my PS came in and drawed all over my chest with a sharpie, they gave me a shot in my stomach (to prevent blood clots) and they wheeled me to the OR. Put on a plastic mask, took a few deep breaths and I was out!
I had a nuclear injection the day before surgery, to make my sentinel nodes blue. That hurt like a bugger.
The only pain meds I got in hospital was hospital grade tylenol in my IV. They offered Oxy and even morphine, but I didn't need anything. I started Oxy the night I came home, every 4 hours for 2 days. Then I did tylenol once a day and 1 oxy before bed for a few nights.
Oh yes, I had to ask people to open my meds for me for the first week because I couldn't twist the caps off.

The exparel is a morphine mixture. It has a fatty compound in it so it lingers in the incision longer. It typically lasts 72 hrs and they'll put that in during the surgery. It's used also for knee replacement surgery. You may not need pain meds but everyone is different. I got the exparel but still used Percocet for the first week. I'd at least ask for a prescription in case. Narcotics can't be called in to your pharmacy if you need them later. You need a paper prescription. Also, yes-make sure you don't get child proof caps on your meds. I got tissue expanders placed under my pecs and it felt like I did 1000 push-ups.

I was confused I found out they do it while I am asleep. I had a port in for a previous cancer and the numbing was painful.
