Shrinking breast plus dent?
Hello everyone.
So, I've never been 100% symmetrical. But this year, something seems to changed. Around the mid February, I noticed my right breast seemed smaller, in that I could clearly see the difference in size between the left and right breasts. I chalked it up to my recent weight loss. About 13 lbs as of yesterday. Then in mid-March, I noticed a dent under my right breast. Or dimple or tethering, whatever you want to call it. It's a shallow curve inwards and the overall contour of my breast seemed to have changed. I thought it was odd and did a Google search and...you can probably fill in the blanks there. As soon as I had my insurance card for my new job I made an appointment with an OBGYN. I go next Monday.
I've done the exact OPPOSITE of what 99.99% of everyone says in that I have been Googling almost nonstop since making the appointment. And have started to explore all portions of my chest for any and all signs and symptoms that would point to cancer. There's no lump, no rash, no scaling, no inverted nipples or discharge, no swelling anywhere, no odd orange peel skin, or thickening of tissue. It's like someone took out a chunk out of the bottom left side of my right breast and messed up the contour of it. Like my boob has a flat tire almost. I've been swinging between calm and collected and nearly sobbing. Like how I was 100% fine all of today and then when I checked myself in the mirror and it looked like my breast was even small...I started freaking out. And it actually pushed me into making this post.
I'm concerned it might be cancer.
I'm worried the Doctor will say its nothing and we'll miss an opportunity to fix this before it gets worse. I'm worried about being so relieved by their dismissal that I'll allow it just to not feel this way. Gleefully and willingly ignorant.
I'm worried that a mammogram will come back clear and there wont be a follow up MRI or ultra sound to confirm.
I'm concerned about how much potential treatment might cost even though I have good health insurance and a bit of savings.
I'm mostly worried that if I am sick and need treatment that it might cost me my job. And then my health insurance.
I'm 29 with no known health problems aside from obesity (hence the trying to lose weight). I just bought a house. Got a good job. My family just got out from under a massive debt that threatened to destroy us. I just started to feel like my life was on the right track and I was going somewhere.
Most of all, I'm terrified of losing that.

Lnzy1 - the only advise I can give you is to keep busy until your appointment. I had a breast scare 6 years ago; after a clear mammo, US and biopsy I was satisfied that I have fibrocystic breast.
When you are young, like yourself, doctors really don’t take you serisously! Be your own advocate! You are young so you have dense breast tissue, which may not pick up anything on a mammo or even an US.
I am back on the boards because I too recently have an indentation under my left breast, the same breast I had a biopsy done on. 2 weeks ago I had a nipple discharge too. Now my new symptom is the left breast has shrunk. I have my mammo US tomorrow. I will keep you posted on my results.
Just remember, push for answers until you are satisfied. This episode consumes your entire mental health, so keep busy and talk with someone you trust or converse here.
You can always PM me! I know what you are going through and sometimes feels like no one understands!

Thank you ConfusedZee, it means a lot. I do better at distracting myself some days more than others. Work helps.
I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and hope everything goes good for you tomorrow.

First...... Don't jump ahead to the what ifs, that more than likely will never happen. I know breast changes are stressful. Very stressful. You are good about checking your breasts and noticing changes. You need to do the following (in my humble opinion), now that you've made your appointment.
1. Go to the doctor, explain your concern. Hopefully your doc will order a mammogram and ultrasound. If he/she does not, then request one. If he/she still will not, then seek another opinion, but more than likely, your doc will order imaging. Don't make assumptions before visiting this person.
2. Once you get the imaging, if you have questions about the results, you can post the text of them on a thread that DJmammo has set up. Don't assume the radiologist will be wrong or that something will be missed.
3. Step away from the computer. Educating yourself is important, but when it crosses the line into scaring you into the fact that you're going to lost everything, then step away from the computer. It will do nothing to help, but will scare you. Deal with what is in front of you and assume all will be good. If anything changes, then deal with each step of the news as it comes. In the meantime, stay busy and distract yourself (which I know is hard). Plan a busy weekend of spring cleaning, etc.
Do post and let us know how your appointment goes. It's good you are so aware of your body.

Thank you, KBee. I needed to hear this and I appreciate it greatly.

I for the most part completely understand what you are going throuh. I found an indentation on my outer left breast and did a little Googling and am now terrified. I am 20 so I only got an ultrasound but my doctor didn't really want to do that, it came back clear but I did some research and pushed for an MRI and am waiting to schedule that.
I have a few post with all my dilemma and some pictures linked.
I will say I am also over weight and have read that heavy breast can cause dimples/indents to appear because it streches the out the ligaments causing the indent.
I have been going crying on and off since January and maybe until may If they can't schedule an MRI this week. Ughh. But Deffenitly Be Positive!

Well hello everyone! I wanted to drop an update on how my visit went. The doctor did a physical exam, felt nothing to be concerned about, but sent me in for an ultrasound anyway. I got the results this morning.
Nothing. They found no abnormalities whatsoever. Blood work came back clear as well (aside from my cholesterol being a little elevated) as did the urinalysis.
I've been given the all clear and I am stupidly releeved. Thank you for all your help throughthis everyone.
