I am in Newfoundland and had a sentinel node biopsy and lumpectomy on March 13th. I don't sèe the surgeon until April 13th. To me that is a long tine to wait. Is that the normal wait time in all provinces?

Hi Crosbyfan, I know my profile says I'm in Toronto but I moved to Halifax 2 years ago and am too lazy to change it lol. That said however, your family doctor should have your results by now. Call the doc's office tomorrow and ask if your results are in and if so ask to speak to the doctor. If the doctor hasn't been sent the results call the hospital that you had the testing done, speak to the imaging department and ask where your results are. I've experienced long waits for medical appointments and such but never that long for results. I recently had a diagnostic done and got a call from my doctor in 24 hours.A month is way too long...make the calls tomorrow I'm sure you'll get answers. I'm hoping you get good results! Keep us posted please.

P.S. I'm about a 5 minute drive from Syd the Kid's family home and workout with his mum at the gym sometimes. :)

Wow, I can’t believe anyone would make you wait so long. 10days is already too long

Thanks. My doctors office is not open Saturdays. Will have to call Monday.

That is pretty cool about Sid's mom😀

I agree Beatmon, but Canad does things differently than the USA.

hey again Crosby- a month waiting for tests results is not the normal here in Canada...you might be assuming that you have to wait the month until your surgeons appointment happens to get results...not true. Your family doctor has the results in 3-5 days at most, some call you some make you call depending on the doctor. For sure make the call Monday (sorry forgot it was Friday when I posted lol) Waiting 30 days isn’t unusual to see a specialist, but you could call the surgeons office and inquire about an earlier appointment or to be put on the cancellation list to get in earlier (if they have one). You don’t have to wait that long...let us know.

Getting pathology results here in Manitoba takes at least three weeks unless they put a "rush" on it. (My endometrial biopsy took eight days which was lightning fast.)

I live in Toronto and I had to wait 4 weeks for my pathology from surgery. I called but was unable to get the results sooner. It was brutal waiting for so long.

I'm in Ottawa. It took about 10 days for my results to come in. The surgeon's office actually moved my appointment ahead when they got the results earlier than they had anticipated. A month seems like a long time to wait....

I’m shocked at some of the wait times listed here

Bbcats, I was treated in Toronto and had really fast turn around...can I ask where you were treated?

Pi-Xi, that’s insane! That had to be so hard on you!

Bravepoint, exactly! A month is too long!

The craziest wait time I’ve experienced was here in Halifax...after I was finished up all treatment I ended up with Pan Ulcerative Colitis...Sunnybrook had me into a GI in 2 weeks, and a week later in for a colonoscopy, results 2 days later. When I moved here it took me 2.5 YEARS to see a specialist...thankfully I was fine And basically symptom free...can’t imagine the fight I would have had to put up for medical attention if I’d been a severe case!

I had my lumpectomy on Dec 12th. My family doctor called me on the 21st & read the pathology results to me by phone.

I saw the surgeon for follow up on Jan 9 (& then he handed me off to the medical oncologist)

Maybe call your GP and see if they have the results of the pathology yet.

For my initial biopsy in 2016, I waited 9 days as there was a holiday in there, Pathology from mastectomy December took 11 days, this time in 2018, bone biopsy was Tuesday, results Friday afternoon, so pretty decent turnaround in Red Deer!

Egads007 what is Pan Ulcerative Colitis?

Happy Easter and good health everyone!!

Egads007 I am just outside St. John's. Some of our pathology tests are done in the States. Seems like from what you said the closer you get to the East Coast the worse it gets.

Crosby - I don't think the wait times get worse per se, I think it's highly dependant on where you are located within each province. From what I'm learning from the replies here it seems that waiting times are all over the map. Getting medical treatment in Halifax is a huge problem recently. There has been little to no bed space in hospitals and people are being sent away from emergency rooms on a regular basis. A few weeks ago a baby died after being sent home with pneumonia. Toronto emerg waiting times are twice that of Halifax, so I can't say things are worse farther east. I guess I lucked out with getting tests and results quickly. Getting into surgery was a different story, too long a wait as far as I'm concerned One thing I'm pretty sure of is that your family doc will have your results before you see the breast surgeon, so it might be worth a shot in checking with them.

Janky - pan ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that causes ulcerations in the large intestines. There are a few types of colitis mine is pan, meaning inflammation and ulcerations through all of the lower bowel. It causes pain, terrible diarrhea and a lot of blood when you go to the bathroom (sorry) I have to get regular colonoscopies (such a joy!) as it raises my risk for colon cancer. Strangely enough the spot on my lower bowel that is most effected is where my rads hit during treatment....all started after chemo. I'm alive so not going to complain lol!

I hope everyone had a peaceful Easter weekend!

by all means go to your family doctor as they will be able to share the report with you - I generally have her print off all my reports, then I have an idea on what to ask MO etc

Egads007 thank you for heads up! Happiness and good health everyone
