Wait is over. Invasive Ductal Carcinoma diagnosis
Comments

Hi Everyone.
I am new here. Received my biopsy results today. I had two tumors in my right breast biopsied Tuesday. Results came back today, positively be for Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Both tumors are estrogen positive. One tumor is also progesterone positive. I have a surgical consult next Friday. I have so many questions regarding what this means in terms of my life, running my business, the future, and so on.
How are you all dealing with recent diagnosis with so many unknowns ahead?
-
SuiteLisa, Sorry you found yourself here....There is no magic wand, unfortunately. You just have to take one day at a time and try not to get ahead of yourself. There will be more appts ahead before you have answers. No one patient reacts the same as another to treatments, etc., but the good thing is, there is more than likely someone on this forum that has been through what you may experience! I would suggest taking a trusted person with you to your first appts with your medical team...both for moral support and another set of ears. And, get copies of your imaging records, reports, etc. as you go. You may not understand them or even want to read them right now, but you may need them later on. Meanwhile, try to stay busy doing things you enjoy and BREATHE! You will feel much better once you have a treatment plan in place and some answers to your questions. You may have a Patient Navigator at your medical facility that can help you also. Best wishes moving forward!:) Your pup is precious!

as the comment above me states, take it one day at a time. It's overwhelming. The waiting to begin treatment is brutal, but once it does begin, you'll feel in charge. I'm so sorry you find yourself here. But, this too shall pass. People told me that. I didn't believe them, and honestly it down right pissed me off. But it's true. Hang in there. Did they provide you with a preliminary stage?
-
Suitelisa-sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I know yesterday was not a fun day for you. I just found out on 3/23 about my BC diagnosis.Wishing good things for you.
-
Thank you Taylor. One day at a time is good advice.
The pup is a 4lb Yorkie that is boarding at my doggy daycare. He is a cutie

Hi Mntx,
In sorry about your diagnosis as well. What type do you have
-
Hi Robin,
Based on the size of my largest tumor, it indicates stage 1. Though they aren’t giving me a stage yet. I have my consult this coming Friday to discuss next steps for staging and treatment

I just got the call today that my biopsy came back positive for DCIS. Waiting for nurse navigator to call me back to get more information and start down the path of more appointment, etc. SuiteLisa, how do you already know estrogen and progesterone positive? I'm just curious because nothing was said to me about that and I'm not even sure how that is tested. I guess I was under the impression that would fall under genetic testing? I have no idea and feel so clueless about everything right now.
-
Sorry you got that call rphouse....it is very overwhelming...just know you have a good resource in this website. Go to the top of the page/Search bar and enter DCIS- you will see so much info...you might need to take a break in between reading. There is a DCIS link .. http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/types/dcis --> this is a good place to start...There is also a forum for DCIS.
Your receptor testing typically comes back after your initial diagnosis. It usually takes 24-48hrs more...ask the nurse navigator if that is being done now. The receptors and hereditary genetics are different. They may want to do a separate genetic test BRCA1 or 2 to see if you have one of those particular genetic mutations. That could impact treatment. You want to know the size of the DCIS, the grade, and receptor status. Your nurse navigator can help answer questions and direct you to support groups, referrals you will need etc. ALSO -start getting copies of all your records - get a copy of your pathology report, and any tests you have from this point forward....or if your Doc/medical group is online make sure you have electronic access to your chart and documents are being uploaded so you have access.
Sending a hug ...

Hi Rphouse,
I am sorry that you find yourself here. We are in very similar stages at this point in our diagnosis.
I know about the estrogen and progesterone because the nurse navigator told me when she called with my biopsy results.
You will likely get similar information when your nurse navigator calls. I hope they call you soon. The waiting is the hardest part. Keep me posted!
((Hugs))

You are correct, the nurse navigator did tell me mine tested positive for hormone driven. Good luck at your appointment on Friday, wishing you the best! Such crazy emotions right now and I’m still comfortable talking out loud about it, so it’s nice to have this avenue and support.

My confusion, did you have surgery?
Best wishes on this new journey you are beginning. Were you able to get time off of work for this? How are you managing it?
