It means a tumor has receptors for estrogen (ER) progesterone (PR) and HER2 (human epidermal growth factor receptor 2)

Scientists believe it means that all three are fuelling the growth of the cancer and blocking those receptors can prevent recurrence.

    Hi mdevroy,

We're sorry you're feeling so overwhelmed! We can see how it may seem as though being triple positive may be a tougher diagnosis, but in actuality, this means you'll have more treatment options -- it means that your type of cancer should respond to hormonal therapies as well as therapies that target the HER2 gene. You can read more about Hormone Receptor Status and HER2 Status on the Your Diagnosis pages on the main Breastcancer.org site.

    We hope this helps!

The waiting part is so hard. I hope you can stay off google and try to just let it go from your mind for a bit. This is still early stage cancer and treatments are very good. I think once you get a plan on Monday it will start to all feel more manageable.

    hugs
