Second cancer in opposite breast?

I was diagnosed with TN in 2006. I underwent six rounds of chemo followed by mastectomy and reconstruction of right breast. I was 45 years old. In 2009 I underwent a biopsy on a spot in my left breast which was negative. Nothing like a good scare to get your anxiety going. I received a call last week that another area has shown up in my left breast and I have a second mammo tomorrow morning. I'm trying to keep my anxiety under control, but I'm curious if others have had a second cancer in their opposite breast.

    Hi CJRobertson,

How are you doing? Have you been able to get any news yet? I am so sorry to hear you are going through this. I don't know if this is helpful or more stressful, but I did have different cancers in each breast. I had a routine mammogram of my right breast in 2013 and they found things that looked suspicious, but upon a biopsy they found nothing. Then in 2016 they did another biopsy and discovered that I did indeed have cancer and it had spread to the lymph nodes. They believe they missed it in 2013. When they did an MRI of both breasts the next month they found cancer in my left breast as well (which had also had biopsies for suspicious stuff 5 years prior). Interestingly, both cancers with different. So yes, it can happen.

Thinking of you with much care and hoping you have answers soon. May you be well and strong.

Thank you for your kind words! I had a second mammogram yesterday and everything was clear. Apparently it was just the angle of the machine and the way my tissue was laying. My remaining breast is naturally fibrous. I do hate the anxiousness of waiting for that second mammogram, but thankful they were able to tell me immediately. I'll be praying for you. I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnoses. I hope that you have more good days than bad. If you ever want to chat, I'd be happy to hear from you again. Thank you for reaching out to me. You are a blessing!

Hi CJ! Woo HOO! Great news! Delighted for you! Thank you so much for letting us know. I also appreciate your kindness and care. I am doing quite well. Recovering beautifully for now. Of course there are all sorts of little things that pop up or nag at my comfort, but overall I feel very happy to be here!

Sending love and joy for your great news!
