Hi all, I’m seeking some advice please!

A couple of years ago my left boob started with a blood stained discharge, there were no lumps and a referral to my local breast unit and sample of the discharge showed no abnormalities. The boob stayed leaking discharge. At the beginning of last year I then found a lump in that same boob which after referral/USS/biopsy/surgery to remove.. it was an intraductal papilloma and non cancerous. They said I shouldn’t have any more discharge but to re refer if I did. I did continue to have the discharge but didn’t refer as I found out I was pregnant 3 weeks after having the result back as all clear! The discharge was pretty similar to what it always had been, until around 10 days ago the loss is fresh blood. I can possibly feel a very small lump right behind the areola, which is also where pain appears to be radiating from, but at the same time that little lump could very easily be a milk duct, just maybe more prominent? Is this likely to just be another papilloma? I’m worried as I’m 30 weeks pregnant now and hoping to breast feed but obviously my health is most important and I’m just worried its more sinister! Any advice will be gratefully received. I have been referred! J

Papillomas can be solitary, multiple or too-numerous-to-count (papillomatosis). If you are having the same discharge from the same breast odds are its another one. Worthwhile having it checked out.

Was your previous one ever seen on imaging? If large enough they can be seen on US.

Thanks for replying! Yes it was seen on USS, only the one, which they removed. If it is the same thing, is it common to keep getting them over? And do they prefer tokeep removing them?

You may be getting new ones or this may be one that has been present all along but is just now bleeding. Yes in my experience they are always removed.

If this really is another one your doc may want an exam to see a wider area of the ductal system like a ductogram or an MRI to see how many there are and remove the corresponding area of breast tissue.
