Breast MRI showed "something" on the Ribs

Options

I had a breast MRI because I was having pain. The MRI didn't show any issue with my breast (I had a bilateral mastectomy 4 years ago - ILC) but my oncologist was concerned about something she saw on my ribs. I told her that I had pulled a muscle there, but she seemed alarmed and said that there was something abnormal with my rib. I don't have any more details and I don't have the report. She ordered a PET scan which I am having this week, but I am really concerned. I have pain in that area but mostly at night - during the day I am fine. I'm pretty concerned. My question is, has anyone had something concerning show up on an MRI that really was nothing? I thought MRI was the best way to see anything. Also, is it possible to have a recurrance on the opposite side of where the original cancer was? (cancer was in left breast, this abnormal rib is on the right.) Any info you have would be appreciated.

I'm pretty sure a PET scan or bone scan would be more definitive than an MRI when looking at your ribs. Isn't a radiologist reading your scan and report? What does the report say exactly?

I haven’t seen the report. My oncologist called me but has been vague about what was there. I know that the radiologist recommended to follow up with a PET/ CT. Part of why I’m on edge is because I have no real info.

I would definitely get a copy of the report. I do not know percentages, but MRIs are notorious for false positives. Do keep us posted. Sorry you have this to worry about.
