My wife diagnost with breast cancer
my wife diagnost with breast cancer. 2 days ago, ultrasound and mri at the moment. surgeon said that urgency should be removed completl the breast and on surgency we will do the biopsy. is that correct?
at oncology center they told us that first we have to do the chimiotherapy and after the 2-3 circle we going to do the surgency.
what is the correct way?
Both of the 2 doctors said that is danger.
her left breast has 35mm to 44mm cancer. she is 38 years old.

So sorry you are here, but it’s a good place for information. Both are correct. Some people do surgery first, and some do chemo before surgery. It is a fairly large tumor, and she is young. They may want to do chemo just because of that. I was very similar, but chose no chemo. I also had two different opinions from two different doctors. I was told there was no “right” way because of my age and other factors. I wanted it out of me as soon as possible, so I went straight to a mastectomy.
I hope this helps, and wish her the best

Hi, George.
I am sorry your wife and you are experiencing this. The time immediately after diagnosis was the hardest for me. It gets better.
How did the doctors diagnose the cancer? Usually a biopsy of a small section of the tumor is done after the ultrasound to find out exactly what kind of breast cancer it is. Different types of breast cancer respond to chemotherapy differently and knowing the type of cancer helps doctors decide if the patient should have chemotherapy before or after surgery.
In my case I had a very large tumor and the type of cancer I had was known to respond well to chemo. So, I had 18 weeks of chemo before surgery. Other women do it the other way, surgery first.
Good luck.

thanks for your answer, the doctors said, that to be 100% sure we have to do the biopsy but they are 99,9% as they said that is danger.
the left breast change a lot and the nipple get inside.me and my wife we are comfust what to do first. the biopsy? or to remove the breast and then the biopsy? or the biopsy and then to tell us what to do first. chemotherapy or surgery. -
Hi George, you are a great advocate for your wife, that is excellent. After a scan, the next step is a biopsy. Treatment decisions will be made after this, since it determines the cancer type and stage.
Keep coming back here for help. Plenty of people here have been through treatment for this disease.
Finally, if possible, attend all doctor visits with your wife and take notes, ask questions, and study up on the various treatments.

The biopsy must be done first before mastectomy to determine if auxiliary nodes are involved, if it turns out to be cancer. John Hopkins warned me about that. Because of the size of her tumour, expect some auxiliary nodes to be positive, although it is still possible for them to be negative. Also, a biopsy will determine the type and prognostics of the tumour and chemo can be done to reduce the size of her tumour for lumpectomy + radiation. For my much smaller cancers, I chose mastectomy as I didn't want anymore "active" breast tissue around.
