Extensive adh. Mastectomy
hi!! Was diagnosed 2 years ago tiny amount of dcis and lots of adh. Just had biopsy. Adh. After years of biopsies and my dr telling me I have a lot of adh I decided to do a mastectomy. Anyone else in sane position?

I'm confused as to your prior treatment. Did you already have a lumpectomy for DCIS? Have you had radiation? Are you currently taking an AI or tamoxifen
-
yes. Lumpectomy and now on tamoxifen. She could only get the dcis in lumpectomy. There was too much adh to get it all.
-
So you had a lumpectomy for DCIS a couple of years ago that had had margins "dirty" for ADH, no reexcision for the ADH or residual DCIS, you have been on Tamoxifen since your lumpectomy, you didn't have radiation and you now have a new biopsy that still shows ADH? I am still to understand what the current situation is.
-
yes. Correct!! No residual dcis. She got it all. Very small amount.

Melissa-it sounds like Robinda is ready to do something about the ADH vs waiting any longer and hypervigilance and biopsy after biopsy.
Robinda- didn’t have ADH but opted for BMX after IDC found in right breast. Don’t regret it at all and am extremely pleased with the immediate DIEP flap recon I had during same surgery as the BMX. Feel free to OM me or post any questions you think I may be able to help with

Lula, thank you! Question. How do they determine if you're a candidate for immediate reconstruction or have to go with expanders?
Robin

a lot depends on what type of recon you're having. Most implant recon uses expanders unless you can find someone who will do immediate pre-pectoral implant recon with alloderm. With natural tissue recon you don't need expanders unless you are having delayed recon and they can't do skin sparing mx. I was able to do skin & nipple sparing mx and they did immediate natural tissue recon using tissue from my tummy. I went in with warm soft breasts and came back out with warm soft breasts that looked very similar (although a bit larger) to when i went in. After revisions I'm back to my original size and they look and feel like the breasts I had before kids. Very happy with results. Here’s a link to the group who did mine (yes I traveled there). They explain each procedure and have before & after photos so you can see their results.
