I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast ca 2 yrs ago with lumpectomy and rad

I had in the past troublesome mammograms and removal of fibrosdenoma at 23. My life has been these yearly mammograms usually with return and findings until Ingot my diagnosis. I had

from the other breast and genetic testing with a positive chek 2.there was also a lot of atypical hyperplasia. So with all that .I finally made a decision to have double mastectomy. Of course the concern was the radiated side as well as the nipples both has radiation dermatatis (from all those mammograms -40 yrs worth) I have Kaiser and my initial treatment was in Northern ca which I had complete trust.Southern Ca not so much . We live in the desert and care is sketchy and we have to go to San Bernardino or riverside .. After 4 consults I picked someone I had trust in and believed he would do it easily and aesthetically. I ended up getting MRSA and l chest tissues expander removed .i have a lot of swelling and actually a small wound from a blister . The area is so upsetting to look at. I want to know what can I do to heal . The R side is doing nicely and the surgeon is surprised by the little scar tissue . I need any suggestions. I have read about MRSA and the protocol. SomI have completed my course, should I ask for and infectious disease physician . I want to be successful so any suggestions please advise. Sorry for the lengthiness of the pos

    Hi ktucker,

Ugggh! That is awful. I had an infection after my mastectomy. We had emergency surgery that night and she cleaned out the area and put a new expander in. Thank goodness it worked. I didn't have MRSA; I had serratia. I absolutely had and ID doc and I had a picc line and three weeks of IV antibiotics. But I had a foreign object there.

You might look a little through TE trouble or search "MRSA", but if you think you still have an infection then ask your PS to recommend an ID doc because it sound like you might need some serious antibiotics. MRSA is not something to mess with!

Good luck. I am SO sorry this is happenign to you!

Thanks Ann Tater. Your infor was helpful and supportive . I will ask for a ID referral. I have Kaiser , so referrals tend to be easy. I want the next surgery to insert a TE. Again to absolutely go off without a hitc
