Frustrated by wait for an ultrasound/biopsy

Options

Since my Stage III diagnosis almost 9 years ago was at age 31, I am considered high-risk and qualify for an annual MRI in addition to mammogram. Had both ten days ago. Doctor’s office calls last week to book me for an ultrasound and biopsy ‘if needed’, due to some fuzzy spots on the MRI which did not appear on the mammo. They were described as ‘indeterminate’.

I’m trying to stay calm. What isn’t helping is that the first available appointment is March 14th, and the oncologist didn’t seem at all concerned. I should add that my original med-onco from 9 years ago - really wonderful - retired last year, and my file has been transferred to the doctor who took over her clinic. She’s fine, but it’s different when someone was there from day one.

They will call me if there are any cancellations before next week. (This all happened while I was at work last Wednesday - I was a wreck!)

Hoping for the best.

sorry you're dealing with this. Glad they keep a careful watch on you though. Be good to yourself while you wait for your appointment. I Hope that all goes well.

    Update!!

So I had the ultrasound - radiologist saw nothing, but they booked an MRI-guided biopsy just to make sure. A procedure that was new to me, amd pretty stressful. They confirmed this week that what is there is benign (yay!!!) fibroadenomatous changes and pseudoangiomatous hyperplasia. Another MRI in six months.

Still not jazzed about this new oncologist. She’s telling me the word ‘benign’ like it’s nothing. My whole family and I have been stressing for weeks! This is a huge relief, coming on the anniversary of my initial diagnosis in 2009.

    Thanks for your support :-)

Great news!!!!! Most people, even in the field of oncology just o not "get it" until it hits them personally.

That is great news!! Sorry you had to go through that and I definitely understand the agony of waiting.

I hadn't thought about how I will feel when I come up on my one year anniversary of diagnosis. I've been too busy in survival mode to consider it. But things are smoothing out now and soon enough the date will be upon me. Do you do anything special for yourself on that date?

Again, I'm so relieved for you and please take care.
