Punch biopsy question

Hello, my name is Kari, I am 45 years old, mother to three children and I live in the midwest. My story so far: I am peri menopausal and my gyn plays the hormone card with EVERY change so when my right breast started itching, I figured it MUST be hormones. It felt like I'd walked into a cactus, I just couldn't seem to satisfy the itch. Itching went on for a while, maybe a week before a faint pink rash showed up over half of my breast, scratching it made it seem to bleed, but under the skin. After a week I went to my gyn and she was perplexed so she did a punch biopsy and prescribed oral steroids which did help the itching, but rash remains albeit not as ugly and red. That was 9 days ago.

On day 6 after biopsy, two red pea sized pimples showed up, one at 2:00 and one at the junction of areola and nipple. They hurt like pimples, but I've never had a pimple on my nipple before so I went in to see my gyn again, she felt like they were just infections and prescribed an antibiotic as well as told me the path lab is having a hard time determining the results of the biopsy and requested more information from her office. In the meantime, after 3 days on antibiotics, my little infections are getting bigger and more painful and the rash has spread under my right arm.

I plan to call a breast specialist on Monday, but I was wondering if anyone has had an experience where the path lab did not know what your rash was? It seems crazy to me.

Thanks for any help!

I'm not sure about why you were seeing a GYN about a rash? I guess because it was on your breast? I don't think I'd want my GYN doing a punch biopsy, though.

I'd recommend seeing a dermatologist about these skin problems. They are the experts in this case most likely. It does seem frustrating to not have an answer from the biopsy. Maybe a different type of biopsy would be preferable.

I hope you get good answers soon!

Good morning. I chose to see my gyn because she's the doc I see the most and has been my doc for 15 years. Dermatologists were several weeks out for appointments, if they were taking new patients at all.

As of this am, still no biopsy results. Thank you for your response.
