Treatment for T2N0 IDC

My mother has just had a mastectomy after a highly suspicious mammography result. The pathology report has shown a T2N0 IDC and also DCIS, with a tumor size of around 3 cm and 0/15 lymph nodes affected. The tumor cells are 3% ER+, PR- and HER-2- with a KI-67 value of 15%. One oncologist she visited said there's no need for chemo/RT but only ER blocker pills.

If you've been in the same situation, what was your oncologist's approach? Is this triple-negative or not? Is it advisable for chemo/RT or not?

Need an oncotypeDX test as to whether chemo will be needed or not. Was th tumour 3cm or the tumour plus DCIS? I suggest, by the looks of it, she has a fairly aggressive tumour and cancer can be sneaky and by-pass the lymph nodes. In any case, despite the low ER she will still benefit from an anti hormonal....but....she needs more information. PR-, regardless, is not good.

Hi cristianc - sorry you’re here. If I were your mother, I would get a second opinion. It can do no harm. I agree an oncotypeDX would also be a good idea.

I say get a second opinion because the ER is so low and I’ve read differing opinions of when it is low enough to be considered TN. If it is TN, chemo would definitely be on the table due to the tumor size. It is a sneaky aggressive cancer. Hope this helps and please keep us informed!
