Breast Biopsy Hematoma

Hi,

I'm new here and wanted to connect with others going through this. I had a biopsy last week and it was incredibly painful. It's still very painful--sometimes super tender, sometimes extreme sharp pain. I noticed today there is a red spot underneath the skin where the incisions was and a little below that is a kind of a lump that is really tender and sore. I've been taking Tylenol, using ice and even started using heat. Nothing helps. I had to stop working out, stayed home from work and I'm so emotional. I don't know if it's a hematoma or what. I didn't know it would hurt this much. I can't sleep

Call the radiologist and ask to be seen to be sure you don’t have an infection.

    Hoping the biopsy was benign

I have had pretty spectacular hematomas with breast biopsies, but they did not hurt in the way you describe. It does sound like something is going on although it could just be tissue settling and some jangled nerve endings. Would be concerned re infection. If it is troubling you to this degree you should go to see the radiologist or even urgent care if they cannot see you. Waiting for results is hard. Very understandable that you are feeling some emotion. Fingers crossed for a good result.

Get checked for infection! The hematoma I got from biopsy developed the same day and was not painful, and did not make the skin itself red. Hope you get relief soon!

My hematoma developed same day and was sore (extremely), rock hard and you could see the bruising immediately under the skin. Definitely call the doctor, either the clinic that did your biopsy or the physician who ordered it. I wouldn't put anymore heat on it until you are seen.

Yeah, heat seems to make the pain worse, actually. It gets more tender. I'm going to call to see if I can be seen by the radiologist today. Thanks for all the responses. My results did come back as benign, so that's at least a load off!

Yes for sure! That's great news---now all you need to do is get that healed!

    :-)
