Move on?

I started with an itchy raised rash all over my breasts about 6 weeks ago now. I have seen my obgyn and my dermatologist, had an ultrasound and a skin punch biopsy and have been told I do not have IBC. I had been prescribed steroids for treatment which helps but everytime I end the steroid it comes right back. I have had burning pain with one breast from time to time but not unbearable. I have red that skin punch biopsies can be done improperly meaning that the error is in taking the actual sample. I also know that the rarity of ibc presents itself usually in one breast. I am just baffled because I have used the same soaps and detergents for5+ yrs and my drs are certain that it’s not mastitis. Should I forget about iBC and move on to other possibilities? I just can Get it out of my head

The skin changes in IBC are secondary to the filling and obstruction of the skin's lymphatic channels with tumor cells. It is progressive and irreversible. It would not resolve with the application of a topical cream even temporarily and in 6 weeks from onset of symptoms, should be fairly far along.

Pathology reports usually contain an evaluation of the quality of the sample itself, whether or not it was adequate for diagnosis, aside from whether it is normal or abnormal. In my practice if a sample was deemed inadequate a repeat biopsy was performed. You might want to discuss the path report with your doctor(s) if you are in doubt of the reliability of the biopsy you had.

After taking DJMammo’s recommendation, maybe check to see if anything has changed with your water. If you’re not on a well, it’s possible the water treatment facility made some changes and didn’t tell you. It’s also possible your soap recipe changed. Manufacturers don’t like to tell you when it happens either (ie Kraft mac n cheese, Duncan Hines cake mixes, etc). I’m guessing the dr ruled out a skin infection...

Thank you so much for your quick responses! I am relieved in hearing that. I will follow up with my dermatologist and try to get this resolved but I feel like I can finally get the C word out of my head

I agree with all of the above. IBC worsens rapidly, in hours and days. It doesn't wax and wane, and no amount of topical cream makes it better.
