Just diagnosed with IDC ugh!
Hello everyone,
Here's my little story so far and i'm only a couple weeks in!
So I have had a cyst in my right breast for a couple years now and didn't notice the larger lump until about 3 weeks ago, who knows how long it grew before that . When you have a large Cyst you don't typically go poking at it as it gets sore. I tried to get in to see my family doctor but just started a new job so time off to me was not ok, and thinking it was still a cyst giving me issues I waited and decided later to go to a walk in clinic on February 1st. She was gracious and had no problem helping me out with sending me for a mammo and US, she didn't have to do this but she was wonderful. I had an appointment on the 5th for testing but got a call from them that they had to delay until Wednesday. So Wednesday I go in and get boob squished and US and I see this look in the faces as they come in the room and tell me i need an immediate Biopsy! I was stunned like what the heck kind of cyst is this! so Thursday I truck on down for the biopsy and it was fairly easy peasy and off I go home. I get a call on Friday morning from the walkin doctor and she tells me i have breast cancer and I need to be referred to a surgeon immediately! talk about getting the blood pumping she sends all my info to my family doctor and they call me 5 minutes later and ask me to book an appointment on Monday.....Monday....I assume my referral to surgeon is gone out then if there is no rush.
Go to the doctor on Monday afternoon and learn from her that it might not be cancer...but it probably is....all conversations lead to me being refereed to the cancer center but not once did she admit or say it was cancer as the pathology was not in yet....How did the first doctor tell me it was then the next doctor make it seem like no biggie.....So I asked her if she knew when the surgeon appointment was yet as I didn't hear anything and she says oh yea ill have to send that referral for you now. SHE DIDN'T SEND IT ON FRIDAY! She proceeds to print me the Mammo and US and Biopsy report that clearly states to the physician to send to this specific number immediately to be seen by the first available surgeon.....
I was stunned and so confused. So now I was waiting for pathology of which my family doctor said well you went to walk in to get this all started maybe they can get the results for you!. my god I am so done with this woman. So that is what I did I went to a walk in clinic and talked to a nice Doctor I don't even know for him to tell me i have IDC. If this is what things are like moving forward just shoot me now and get it over with cause this emotional roller coaster has to stop.
I truly hope no one else has had to deal with so much drama just to get to such an early stage....

Samoya-
Oh goodness, that all sounds terribly frustrating! We're sorry you've already been on such a roller coaster. We hope that the next days and weeks bring some clarity, and we're all here for you as you begin down this road.

Hi Samoya - that is an unfortunate way for it all to start but hopefully now things will move more smoothly. Good for you for being proactive & getting it looked at!
The provincial cancer agencies kick into gear quickly. I know there are several ladies from Alberta on the boards now going through treatments so if you need to talk to someone in your province, let me know & I'll point you to them.

I'm glad you found a new doctor. It's enough to feel fear and uncertainty without doubting the competency of your doctor on top of it. Once you get the pathology from the biopsy you and your surgeon can decide on treatment. And this website is a great place to research your options and hear from other survivors
