Hi there.

I'm a 36yr old female. I had a lump removed in 2002 as the needle aspiration test was inconclusive so the Dr deemed it to be borderline between malignant and benign. Since then I have had the Hadfield procedure to remove all milk ducts from both breast due to bleeding and fluid leakage. Both came back benign.

My maternal aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer of the milk duct and carries the hereditary gene.

I have just been to a breast cancer screening as I found a lump behind my nipple on Christmas Day. (It's taken this long to be seen)

My GP wanted them to do a mammogram and the blood test for screening of the hereditary gene. The Dr I just seen refused both. He sent me for an ultrasound and told me it was probably just scar tissue from previous surgery. I said I wasn't so sure as my surgery of that area was in 2001 and this is a new change. I feel like he didn't want to help.

I went for the ultrasound and the sonographer found a lump and is not convinced that this is just scar tissue. She has requested a second opinion. She wants me to see a radiologist and to have a further needle aspiration test. I got sent back up to the clinic to discuss the findings with the Dr. He said that he doesn't feel it needs a second opinion but will speak to the radiologist but will probably write to me to discharge me.

I think with my history and my aunt's that they should be doing these tests to eliminate the possibility that I have breast cancer. If I get discharged I what have to wait until I find another lump in which case my best chance of treatment could be too late.

I have a 12yr old daughter to also consider, if I have the gene she could have it too?

Don't know what to do and I'm more worried now than when I arrived at the hospital this morning. These appointments are meant to put you mind at rest.

Any ideas what to do now?
