Biopsy after changes on 6 month followup US
Hello everyone! I recently posted in the "Not Diagnosed But Worried" section, but have had some updates so am now posting my situation here.
I'm 29. When I was 26 (summer 2914) I began feeling an occasional sharp/achy/twinge pain in one spot in my left breast in summer 2014. I didn't spend a lot of time trying to find a lump at the time. I was too scared to really look into to far (which sounds so stupid now, I know). I read that pain usually means it isn't cancer, so I just tried to ignore it the best I could. I could reproduce the pain when pressing on that one spot and then occasionally I get twinges or shooting pains even when I'm not touching it, but it isn't an overall constant ache.
In 2016 I found a small lump in that spot, abut the size of a split pea. It was hard and the pain happened when I pushed on it. I dragged my feet on getting it looked at until August 2017. I was sent for an ultrasound, and this is what they said:
palpable painful mass within the left breast. Grayscale sonographic
images show a circumscribed oval mass measuring 4 x 6 x 3 mm in size. There
is no overlying vascular flow.
IMPRESSION:Probably benign subcentimeter mass underlying the area of
palpable concern.
ASSESSMENT: Category 3 Probably benign
RECOMMENDATION: Ultrasound of the left breast in 6 months.
I still wasn't satisfied, so I met with a breast surgeon who told me she really didn't think it was anything to worry about and that while we could remove it, she really wouldn't recommend scaring my breast for something that was so unlikely to be anything bad. I've suffered from severe health anxiety all my life, which I'm working on overcoming, and I decided that I needed to try to trust in the radiologist and the breast surgeon and just wait for the 6 month followup.
The 6 month followup ultrasound was on Feb. 5, and there have been changes to the mass:
In this location there is a hypoechoic mass measuring 0.4 x 0.6
x 0.4 cm with slightly irregular margins. It is taller than wide. There is
now a trace of vascular flow. The lesion is indeterminant. Biopsy
is recommended.
The left axilla was surveyed and there is no evidence of axillary
lymphadenopathy.
ASSESSMENT: Category 4 Suspicious
Core needle biopsy was done on Feb. 12 and I'm just waiting for the results. But at the followup ultrasound the doctor just said that the mass now has blood supply, so that's why they wanted to biopsy it. That scared me enough, but she failed to mention that it now also has slightly irregular margins. So, I'm freaking out over the irregular margins, taller than wide, and development of vascular flow. I had done my best to convince myself it was just a fibroadenoma, but now that I look at the ultrasound report I'm having a much harder time rationalizing anything other than something horrible.
Kicking myself for not opting to get it removed 6 months ago! For once I try to fight the health anxiety and trust in the doctors, but I should have had it removed! I feel like I might pass out waiting for the results.

So sorry you are going through this! It is good you got the biopsy so soon you will know for sure. I have seen other women post with very similar stories on here and their results still came back B9 even though there was a blood flow. I hope you also get B9 results. Best of luck! Keep us updated.

B9, B9, B9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Slightly irregular margins, blood flow, and taller than wide and still B9! Hope this brings hope to people in the future that might come here searching similar terms like I did.
Have requested copy of my pathology report, which is being sent in mail today. Part of me thinks I should request that the lump be removed, but I'm going to just accept this for now and wait to see the report. It was just an office person and all she said was the results were fine and scheduled a follow-up ultrasound in 6 months, so didn't bother asking her any questions.
I'm so happy I could throw up!!!

Yay! So happy for you!

Yay! I bet you are so glad!
