My best friend has a lump in her right breast. Somewhere between the breast and the armpit. It appears to be firm, irregular in shape and immovable. She discovered this about a month ago -- at the time this was towards the end of our 2-year-long romantic relationship, so a lot was going on emotionally. She is also not one to deal with things as they crop up and admitted she was hoping this would go away, perhaps with menstrual cycle. It hasn't, although it hasn't grown in size and she can't tell if it feels smaller. When she presses on it, it is very painful. She estimates it is about the size of an olive. Which seems quite big.

I've read a ton online and that can be good and bad. It seems that the location is a troublesome location when it comes to breast cancer, as well as the fact that it is irregular in shape and immovable. At 28, I am trying to tell myself (and her!) that the odds are incredibly in her favour.

She finally set up a doctor's appointment for Monday but only as a result of her anxiety and stress getting the best of her -- likely aided by me.

Are there others in her age group who have had similar size/feeling lumps in similar locations that turned out to be benign?
