Screening post hysterectomy

Not really sure where to post this. Since I had a hyster as a result of Tamoxifen I opted to do it here.

My one year gyn checkup is coming up but I'm wondering if I really need to go. I had a total hysterectomy. Very little left.

What say ye??

Wouldn't your gyn be checking you for cervical cancer every other year?

so I had the same question for my GYN when I went for my follow up. Everything is gone for me including cervix. She said she will evaluate for vaginal/urinary atrophy, prolapse of vagina, growths that may occur vaginally (she had a lady who developed a tumor in her vaginal wall once), visual check for evidence of STDs (DH is the only one I’m with and he’s only with me so not likely to have), breast exam (I had BMX w/DIEP and PS & BS say no mammo a or mri needed unless you or doc discover a lump), and help with any sexual dysfunction issues (ie lubrication, pain with intercourse, etc). I really like my GYN so I will continue to go. My pcp is a friend (I knew him while he was finishing med school and switched to him when my doc retired) and i see him at work too. He has never seen my breasts or my nether regions and I’d prefer to keep it that way. He handles everything else-physical, thyroid, blood work, manages all my meds except AI, sick visits, etc. so I do need someone for the female part end of things that still need watching over.

    No cervix.

I guess it is screening for vaginal and vulvar cancer. Never really hear of that. 😑 ugh.

    Thanks ladies.

farmerlucy - I had a total abdominal hyst/oooh long before breast cancer. In the military medical system I always had an annual Pap/exam, which was the ticket to annual mammo. After BMX I didn't need the mammo, but continued with exams and Pap. When I was probably two years post BC diagnosis, my Women's NP suggested that I could discontinue Pap smears and exams. I had never had an abnormal Pap, and my tissue was thin enough after being on Letrozole that she felt I was in danger of laceration with the speculum. I have had no issues and it's one less appointment for me.
