Waiting on results - very worried
I went for routine mammo on a Thursday, the next day the Drs office called me and said more test were needed that I had abnormalities in both breast. Following Tuesday afternoon I had diagnostic mammo and ultrasound. They wouldn't let me leave till images were uploaded and sent to radiologist. The next day the Drs office called me again said I needed to have biopsy asap she asked when I could do it. I said as soon as you can get me scheduled. 10 minutes later she called me back and said they had me scheduled for the next day at 3pm with surgeon and to come to the office at 8:30 to see the dr. I went the next morning to my gp & the 1st question he asked me was to tell humble what I knew about my situation so I did... which was nothing really. I asked him to tell me what was going on he said my left breast was full of cyst & they weren't worried about them but the right breast hadn't a solid mass about 1.6 cm. I asked him if they thought it was cancer. He put his head down & said he didn't know know. He also said " let me throw this out there if you did would you have lymphnode removal or mastectomy? I was horrified as was my 71 yr old mother who was there with me. (I'm 46)
MY husband took me to my appt with surgeon who did 2 needle core biopsies he said the mass was 2 cm which is a bit off what the gp said. I asked him when I would know he said I'm bringing you in Monday to go over results. he said he would not tell me results over phone! I heard him tell the lady before me not to worry and he was 99.9% sure hers was b9. So I thought great that opens the door for me to ask him what he thought about mine so I did. He said if you want me to tell you I think it's b9 I can't yours could go either way but I promise you I will have your results Monday and told me that was as quick as it gets smiled and told me not to worry so much. He also said this wouldn't be a one time stop of seeing him. I'm scared. The mass is at 8 o'clock position it looked to be oval in shape but not perfectly oval with some white dots in it to one side. On another note they removed all my info to do with my mammo on the patient portal site. I did ask for copies of the radiologist reports and they told me he would have them for me Monday but not before. Is all of this normal practice? Thank you for any insight

Oh, I'm so sorry. Unfortunately, most GPs know very little about breast cancer, so they should just shut up already. Radiologists often do have an idea from the images they see, but nothing is final until the biopsy results are reviewed twice by qualified doctors. I am wishing you good results on Monday, and whatever happens please come back and we will be happy to help. You definitely want to demand copies of the mammography, ultrasound and biopsy reports for your files - and don't make any decisions based on conversations with a general surgeon.
