Anyone else have excisional biopsy just based off ultrasound?

The more I'm reading, the more it seems strange that my doc recommended surgery based off ultrasound alone (no mammogram or core biopsy, or any other type of testing/biopsy). Is that common? (She believes I have papillomas). I'm reading research documents on papillomas & pretty much all research is done based on what the initial core biopsy said in contrast to the final pathology report after surgery. Just wondering if anyone else bypassed a biopsy & went straight to surgery on something that's supposedly benign?

    Hi afaye:

I had excisional biopsy based on ultrasound finding. The ultrasound showed a cyst, but my breast had nipple retracting in. The surgeon said that she though there was a grape like cluster of benign cysts pulling in my nipple a bit. Anyhoos, it turned out to be cysts on a malignant tumor that did not show on the ultrasound because of dense breast tissue. So I am glad that I had the biopsy done this way because if it had been a core biopsy, they would have biopsied the cyst which was benign.
