After a ton of images I was told that all appears fine and something about air pockets I believe she said. I was told I will need a follow up in 6 months with a mammo and possible ultrasound of left breast. I asked if they thought cancer and she said if we thought that you would be getting a biopsy today. This was my 1st mammo of this breast. Is this something standard to follow up? Should I be concerned?

6 month follow-up after diagnostic mammogram seems pretty standard to me. They would have definitely recommended you either for immediate follow-up or biopsy if they found anything, so it sounds like you have great news.

Thanks for replying! Does anyone else know if this is standard or because they think I have something going on that needs to be monitored?

You need to take "no" for an answer and address your anxiety problem. Please take the advice of the many people who took the time to help you on your other thread. Anxiety is an ugly thing, please seek help for it and remember that a cancer site is really bad for you.

Hi Jujube43 I totally get what you are saying and I am on meds no that take a few weeks to kick in. I also am trying to walk a bit to help with anxiety. I was just curious if a 6 month follow up is something I should be concerned about. I figured if it was all clear that I would be done until I was 40. I had a mammo on the opposite breast once before while breastfeeding as I had an issue and never needed a follow up. Thank you for responding and sorry again for the anxiety.

chelle, I think you should address your questions regarding follow up to your doctor.

You have roughly fifty posts responding to you and trying to reassure you and you can't be convinced, and now I see another round coming where we try to reassure you that your doctor is not wrong. We can't convince your anxiety.

chelle, you can trust that if you had even a 3% chance of this being cancer (BIRADs 4) they'd be pushing for a biopsy. Six month follow-up is standard procedure after a diagnostic mammo. They just want to make sure that everything stays the same during that interval.

Very standard, you can rest easy. If they thought it was of any concern, even the most minute concern, they would want a biopsy.
