Hi Ladies!

I have had a weird 10 days of breast issues and I’m hoping someone here may have some idea what is going on. I am 32 and I weaned my third child about a month ago. I woke up last Wednesday with a red/tender area. I assumed mastitis so I called my ob who saw me that day and gave me a 10 day round of antibiotics. At this point that one spot was tender and red but the rest of my breast was normal. She said to be safe she was sending me for a diagnostic ultrasound a couple days later on Friday. I went to that and they imaged both breasts/lymph nodes/armpits and found no areas of concern, thickening, enlarged nodes, cysts etc. It took a few days but the red area has also gone away. But then starting this Wednesday (about 5 days after ultrasound) my breast has been tender/sore. No redness, swelling or anything but I’m nervous that maybe there is still an issue that the ultrasound missed? Or could I be sore from the ultrasound still?? I am of course worried it’s IBC but my doctor said that it would have gotten worse not better and the rash wouldn’t have gone away on antibiotics. Could it just be related to weaning?? Thoughts anyone?? Thank you!

I would think this is related to recent weaning, probably an incomplete treatment of mastitis. IBC doesn't act like this. It gets worse and worse, and definitely doesn't respond to antibiotics. IBC is quite rare and is most likely to occur in women over the age of 60.

Call your doctor on Monday. If it gets worse this weekend with fever, go to urgent care. I'd guess you need another round of antibiotics.
