Worried..thoughts?!?

I’m 38 and recently had a mammogram and was moved over to ultrasound after the tech went back and forth talking to the radiologist. On the US in the left axillary region a lymph node was demonstrated 2.3cm x1.6cm.

Impression:

1. No abnormalities noted in the region of Palpable abnormality.

Correlation with clinical exam needed as this should not deter biopsy of any clinically suspicious palpable lesion.

2. 2.3 cm lymph node left axillary region

My question-should this be concerning?? My GYN suggested a second look in 3months, however I am 2 hours from a major cancer center and feel that perhaps I shouldn’t just “wait” as I would rather be proactive than reactive.

Am I over reacting? Honest thoughts please!

I didn't want to ignore your request. But I'm sorry, I don't know how to medically read what you have listed. Maybe if you have another GYN read it, to see if he/she agrees with your GYN.

Or if your lucky, someone with similar dx can help. Best wishes.

    jwlabaap,

In my case being high risk, I always get everything checked out right away. I think you can have a larger lymph node from something other than cancer like an infection in an area that drains to axillary lymph nodes.

The lymph node is elongated, although large. This is a good sign, malignant nodes tend to be round.

Can you post the entire report? What is posted above is not conclusive.

Its missing a measurement of the thickness of the lymph node's cortex and its effect on the fatty hilum as well as how many were enlarged and if they are larger than on the other side. As described the node is not necessarily abnormal. On the other hand the node can be abnormal and maintain an oval shape before it becomes round. See attached diagram.

Also missing from the report is the Birads # and the recommendation.

can I get that information by contacting the hospital that performed the US or do I contact my GYN?

I appreciate you and taking the time to respond.

I should also mention that Ido have intermittent pains that run down from my left arm pit area down the the nipple area and frequently feel a tightness across my chest area. I have also been dealing with vertigo that despite efforts from my other dr to reset the crystals in my ear. All of these could be totally random and not a cause for alarm, because they are all separate issues or are they?

Yes, I think you should be able to get the full report from either your gyn or the hospital. They are YOUR records. I always ask for mine. You might need to sign an info release, but they can usually e-mail them to you quickly.
