Hi there. I'm a RN with BC. I'm not a Hospice nurse but I did homecare for years with Hospice experience. IMO being in the medical profession adds another layer to the BC experience. Would love to share...

I'm an RN, recently retired after 40 years. My specialties are peds and developmental disabilities. Prior to my diagnosis I didn't know much about any cancer. Breast cancer really made me step up my game. The advantage of being a nurse is that I can discern legitimate research from quack "research." The disadvantage is that i know just enough to drive myself crazy.

so good to hear from another nurse I've been a pediatric nurse since 1974, all on night shift 10 yrs in peds hem/onc. I have read some abstracts on meddling and medscape that night shift working women do have a higher rate of BC by about 30+ %. I'm retired as of 2014, and I'm 75 in February . I don't have surgery until Tuesday 30th so don't know if there will be any node involvement my surgeon doesn't think so , he gave me the choice of having radiation via the savai catheter think that's how u spell it. The info I've found doesn't recommends radiation for my stag and grade. Just. Something oral . I guess the yrs i was giving go chemo with out using all the protection and I know I got that stuff on me raised my chances of getting this. Any helpful info u can give would be grea

Hi. I am an RN in hospital setting---orthopedic.  24 years experience.  Boy, you never stop learning!!! Until I got BC I didn't really know about oncology.  Now I must learn to care for myself.

    mbryant-

Interesting, bryant. I did 25 years of night shift. I retired last July after 40 years of nursing. It's hard to know what caused my Cancer. Was it the sleep deprivation? The stress of raising kids with disabilities? My DHs illness? Or is it simply down to gene mutations? I dunno.

I keep going over in my mind what I did wrong to cause this. No family hx try to take good care of myself have a positive out look on life. But I refuse to be a victim of this. Waiting on call from oncologists and that is hard now trying to decide whether to keep on my ketogenic diet I had been on. What does every eat for a diet anything special. I want to treat my whole body not just my sick boobies.what say u ladies that have benn doing this for a whil

don't beat yourself up. You didn't cause this. Breast cancer is usually just the (bad) luck of the draw. Like you, i refuse to give in. I dont eat anything special. I still eat sugar. I occasionally drink a little rum. I take my Femara (with few SEs.) So far, so good. If it comes back I'll deal with it then.

    Hi everyone,

I am a homecare LPN. Having to go through this a second time after 18 years is a roller coaster. My nursing knowledge flies out the window when it is me who is the patient.

Any nurses out there that could offer advise....

I am currently using Ibrance at off label dosing due to low ANC on lowest dose.  I posted more information in the Ibrance thread.

I am looking for literature searches, sites, etc on Ibrance dosing and efficiency. Also sites on CKD 4/6 inhibitors.

I want to discuss with my MO and show them reputable information they cannot dispute.  I want to show them I have been researching the subject.
