Lupron with Tamoxifen?
Hey, guys.
I know this issue has been discussed a lot on the boards but thought I'd post to get most recent thoughts in light of some new results from Soft/Text @ San Antonio conference.
I am pre-M, still getting periods on Tamox. My MO offered the alternative to get Lupron shots. It was mostly due to me asking about it. I have osteoporosis (borderline in one area), so full-blown Lupron with AI not the plan for now. We'll check into that in year/two after treatment (Prolia) for bone issues.
Added benefit she said perhaps 2-3%.
Anyone else out there my age (diagnosed 49), pre or peri-M, and doing this? I get migraines during hormonal week. MO said it may help. Have read from a few others here that it may not. Just trying to determine if I should go this route. I'd be cool to do the every 3-month with Lupron since it's isn't completely dictated by my diagnosis, I realize. Just added protection, I suppose, since I did not do chemo, etc. That is all in my mind maybe.
THANKS!!!

I am a bit younger than you, premenopausal, and am doing the Tamoxifen/Lupron combo. Stopped my periods dead in its tracks. I do the monthly shot because I’m worried about “breakthrough” estrogen which I was told is possible with the Lupron. I started them both at the same time, so I honestly can’t tell you as far as side effects vs just the Tamoxifen. Mostly no big deal if you don’t mind shots

Thanks, CPeachymom! I appreciate the input/advice.
I actually have very light SEs with Tamoxifen, so, hoping Lupron will be the same or similar. I was already experiencing likely issues leading to menopause -- sleep, etc. -- before BC...so...maybe my body won't be like: wtf!
I don't mind shots. They offered to send them to me so I could do myself. Um, no, thanks on that one! I don't mind but don't want to give to myself! Yikes.

EastCoast- I had Lupron for a year. And I started with exemestane and then femara. My last shot was Dec 18. And now I'm on Tamoxifen alone, though I suspect the Lupron is still in my system. My body just ached on that combo. An MRI of my neck in October revealed significant arthritis, and I just didn't want to make it worse. My dad had both of his hips replaced by the time he was my age (47) so I thought I could beat arthritis with exercise and yoga and healthy eating. Then BC struck and I was thrust into rapid aging, I guess.
Like peachy, my period stopped immediately on the Lupron. Over the year I mostly had monthly shots though I had a three month shot because after the DIEP surgery I couldn't get to my MO. And I had a three month shot the first month and waited for menopausal symptoms before starting the AI.
So I can't speak for the Lupron Tam combo perhaps that would be more balanced?
