Recovery from Lumpectomy and Axillary Node Dissection

Hi everyone, my surgery is scheduled for next Monday morning (1/29) and I should be home resting comfortably by dinner time. Just wondering how uncomfortable the first few days of recovery are and what advanced preparations I should make, if any. My husband is involved and super helpful and supportive. I have a 7 year old daughter who only knows that I am having surgery (no details), plus a dog and two cats. Is it insane to think that I could attend a performance on that Thursday evening (seated in a theater) or dinner out on Friday with some local moms (who do not know i am having surgery) during the Father/Daughter Dance? I know everyone is different and heals differently, but if it is crazy to think I will be up for these things, maybe I should just back out now. If you were up and about within 4 or 5 Days, would you recommend it? While I am looking forward to a couple of days of rest, I hope to be up and about after a few days and back to work the following Tuesday. Thoughts?

I had two days of pain but not really bad. Went out four days after surgery and did usual things but take your time and see how you feel. You may be very tired. Everyone is different. Don't forget to exercise gently arm on operated side but NO lifting. All the best.

Hi Scarlett. My lumpectomy was pretty easy but I needed Tylenol and ice for three days. So I think you could do a two- or three-hour event by Thursday night. Good luck with everything! Monday is going to be a long day, so bring a nice shawl, a book, and anything else you need to get through the periods of waiting around at the hospital. I'll be thinking good thoughts for you.
