So 2 data after apt I got call asking to go in day later as was urgency . This freaked me out then as up till then I just though well if the doc isn't worried I shouldn't b ? Well I couldn't make that apt as to short notice arrange childcare work etc so now it's tomorrow and I'm really scared and nervous .....what will I expect at this apt ? Thank you

Hi Tc38,
I'm assuming that you have been referred to a breast center? You will probably have a screening mammogram. If you have a choice between 2D and 3D, choose the 3D, even if you have to pay a little more out of pocket for it. They will probably do 2 views per breast. Then they may do an ultrasound, especially if they see something they aren't sure of on mammography. When they do an US, they use some warmed gel and they slide a wand over the area of interest. Neither of these tests are painful, although they do sometimes squeeze a little hard on the mammo, and sometimes they can push a little hard with the wand. If they see anything that concerns them, they will make a recommendation to either do a biopsy, or to follow-up in 3 months or 6 months.
They will give you a BI-RADS score, and if they don't, make sure to ask for it. Also, ask for access to the patient portal so you can see the actual written report. If you have questions about your reports, you can find help here as to what they mean.
Try not to worry, most lumps are benign. Good luck for good results!

thanks for the reply bonnie yes I've been refereed to a breast clinic . What is a bi_rads score ? Thank you I shall ask.for these . Thanks for your advice and information x

I hope all goes well TC! The BI-RAD is a score they give to results from breast imagining. They might also give you a score on the density of your breasts - I believe there are 4 levels for that.

I know you are trying to stay away from google (which is a great idea, I just about scared myself into a heart attack after googling something the radiologist specifically told me NOT to google), but you can find good, non-scary, information about the BI-RADS scoring system on google. It essentially tells you if you need a biopsy or not.
Good luck, and let us know what happens.

I had a ultrasound were the doctor found the lump scanned that breast an they found a cyst so luckily that's all it was . Said no need drain it as only 1 cm and not doing any harm keep eye on it etc . But I don't understand why they didn't do a mammogram ? And only had one breast scanned . I have found another lump which is bigger than the first do I go back or just leave it as it's probably just another cyst
