About 3 years ago a found a small lump in my breast. My doctor didn't feel the need to do any test because he was positive it was just a cyst. So I didn't bother it and it didn't bother me. Well last week I felt it again only it was bigger. I brought it up to my doctor who was positive it was fibrocystic breast and sent me for an ultrasound. They said it is not a cyst but a tumor (fibroadenoma) and want to wait 6 months to see if it grows or I can opt to have it removed. I think I would rather just get it removed but didn't understand why they didn't want to biopsy it. I can' help but be nervous. What if they remove it and it turns out to be cancer?! They didn't want to do the mammogram because I'm under 30. I've never heard of that before. I'm just in my head and freaking out.

I think that radiologists get quite good at identifying different types of masses and red flags for cancer over their careers and through specific training. If they didn't think biopsy was necessary, I'm sure the radiologist was confident that your tumor is benign, and the follow up is to confirm that.

Of course it is up to you if you want it taken out, and that is completely fair and understandable. I assume if you have it taken out they will send it for analysis and you'll get a definitive answer on what it is.
