Hi All- This is my first time on here. During my annual mam in Dec, I was called back for a Diagnostic Mamm and US on RT. US was neg, but rad said I needed a biopsy as there were calcifications clustered in one area and distortion she was concerned with. Nurse told me they suspected DCIS which is Stage 0. Met with surgeon office and they have me scheduled for Steretoactic Biopsy to check out two areas. On my report it was listed as Bi Rads 5. I have a week to go until biopsy and don't know if I should be preparing myself for it to be positive. Anyone have any similar experiences? My mom was diagnosed with Stage IV BC in 2016 at the age of 58. I've seen her go through Chem and partial Masc, now they discovered more in her lungs and another lump- waiting for that to be looked at. Am I crazy to just want them both chopped off at this point? Also, paternal cousin is same age as me and was diagnosed last year with BC, tested + for BRACA 2 as did her father. My paternal grandmother passed away of breast cancer before age of 60. AHHHH

Hi there and my gosh, I'm so sorry. It sounds like they are noting calcifications and an architectural distortion; that could be cancer but it could also be something benign. I think it's a sign of good medical treatment that they are doing a biopsy, and you probably want to ask ask them to run some genetic tests on the sample too. If you have the BRAC 2 gene then no, it's not crazy to think about a prophylactic double masectomy but I do hope it doesn't come to that.

Waiting for the tests to come back can be hard, but do try to be optimistic and keep your mind engaged with other things as much as you can. Wishing you all the best and do keep in touch with us.

I had my biopsy and got results. The pathology report says “The findings indicate for both sites, intra-ductal carcinoma, high-grade with lobular cancerization and calcifications present.“ I have an appointment with breast surgeon this week.

Does high grade mean it’s worse or even that more likely to be invasive? What is lobular cancerization? How likely will I be choosing a mastectomy over lumpectomy with these results or can you not tell? I also had the genetic test done last week. Waiting for the results
